Billy Wagner told the New York Post Monday that he's planning to retire.
"I don't plan on talking to nobody," Wagner said, when asked where hemight pitch next season. The free agent left-hander posted a 1.72 ERA,1.02 WHIP and 26/8 K/BB ratio in 15 2/3 innings this season and it waslargely assumed he wanted to find a closing gig this winter. But nowthe 38-year-old is talking retirement. "Why wouldn't I?," he said."I've got nothing else to [accomplish]."

There shouldn't have been any doubt. Martinez hit .336/.405/.507 duringhis time with the Red Sox this season and is one of the top offensivecatchers in the game. Epstein said he will hold discussions with JasonVaritek on returning as a backup, but the veteran probably craves moreplaying time.
