Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports that LHP Will Ohman had his $2.2 million option declined by the Dodgers, making him a free agent.
Ohman had a 5.84 ERA in just 12 2/3 innings for the Dodgers before undergoing arthroscopic surgery in June. Despite the lost year, the 31-year old should be sought after as a low-risk, high-reward signing.

Yusei Kikuchi spoke with four Japanese teams on what these teams could offer him should he choose to play in the Japanese major leagues.
Kikuchi is a left-handed 18-year old who is drawing a ton of interest from both Japan and America. Kikuchi is considering making the jump to the MLB much like Junichi Tazawa did and is currently weighing all his options. Interested teams are the Red Sox, Dodgers, Rangers, Giants, Yankees, Mets and Mariners. It seems likely the new Japanese phenom will decide by the end of October.

Stephen Strasburg tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings for Phoenix of the AFL in his pro debut Friday.
He allowed two hits, walked one and struck out two in the 50-pitch outing. Both strikeouts came in the first, and he took advantage of double-play balls in both the second and third. There was one more in the fourth after he allowed a Jose Tabata single to start the inning and was pulled.

Diamondbacks GM Josh Byrnes and manager A.J. Hinch had breakfast with Eric Byrnes on Wednesday to discuss the outfielder's future.
"We just wanted to sit down and lay out what's in front of him," said the D'Backs' general manager. Byrnes is entering the final year of a three-year, $30 million deal he signed in August of 2007. He's had two consecutive disappointing seasons, mostly due to injuries, and won't have a starting job in the Arizona outfield next season. He's a candidate to be traded this winter, but the D'Backs might have to eat most of his remaining salary.

According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Cubs are engaged in talks with Rudy Jaramillo about becoming their next hitting coach.
Jaramillo, the Rangers' hitting coach for 15 years, is the most coveted non-player on the free agent market this winter. The Cubs fired hitting coach Von Joshua in early October and are expected to make Jaramillo an offer that includes a $750,000 annual salary.

Still, that seems like a pretty fair offer from Los Angeles considering the outfielder will be 36 on Opening Day next season. He hit .293/.390/.435 with 15 homers, 103 RBI and 30 stolen bases in '09.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, former Nationals manager Manny Acta is in the running for the Indians' open managerial position.
Acta has already engaged in a phone interview with Tribe GM Mark Shapiro and is ecstatic about the possibility of landing the gig. "I'm excited and honored to be part of this process," he said. "...I think things are going to be very exciting in Cleveland very soon. We are still very early in the process." Acta was fired from the Nats in July after going 158-252 over two-and-a-half seasons. He also has an interview scheduled with the Astros.

According to the Spanish version of the Associated Press, Albert Pujols is not interested in signing a new long-term deal this offseason.
"I'm not desperate to sign a contract extension," Pujols said in Spanish. "I still have a one year contract in 2010 with a club option for 2011." The Cardinals' higher-ups are hoping to make him a lifetime Cardinal before he comes close to free agency in 2012. It might not happen this winter, but it's pretty apparent they're going to do everything they can to keep Albert in St. Louis. The 29-year-old slugger, who will be 31 when his contract expires, posted a league-leading 1.101 OPS this season and should bring home his third NL MVP when the award is announced in mid-November.

According to Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun, the Orioles are interested in free agent infielder John McDonald.
McDonald, 35, hit .258/.271/.384 with four home runs and 13 RBI in 151 at-bats and played a solid defense this season for the Blue Jays. With Melvin Mora on his way out, the O's could use some inexpensive infield depth.

Carlos Guillen is hoping to resume his role as an everyday player in 2010.
"I've been doing a lot of moves for the last two years trying to make this team better," Guillen said Tuesday night. "But I would like to be an everyday player. I would not like to be a part-time player." He was held out of the starting lineup often times last season against right-handers and a shoulder injury prevented him from playing an effective outfield late in games. Hopefully an offseason of rest, and then strength-building, will help him regain his status as an everyday, nine-inning member of the Tigers.
